Only verified valid licence holders to drive DTC buses: HC

The Delhi High Court today directed Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) not to allow anyone who does not have a verified valid and current driving licence to drive its buses in the national capital.
A bench of justices B D Ahmed and Jayant Nath, however, made it clear that DTC would not carry out repeated verification of licences of its drivers without any reason.
The direction came after the court was informed that DTC was yet to verify driving licences of 600 of its drivers who were allowed to operate the buses till the verification process was over.
Petitioner NGO, Azaad Dasta Sankalp Hamara, told the court that some drivers were also being harassed by sending their licences for repeated verification.

After noting DTC's contention that all its drivers are made to undergo a rigorous driving test, the bench disposed of the NGO's plea alleging that many drivers of the corporation did not have valid licences.
In another PIL by a separate NGO, Nav Jagrity Manch, alleging that many DTC drivers were unfit to drive as they were colour blind, the court directed the transport corporation to file an affidavit indicating if there were any more visually unfit drivers who were operating the buses.
With this direction, the court listed the remaining PIL for hearing on January 18.
