Opposition Congress and BJP today demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik as the stalemate in Odisha Assembly continued for the third consecutive working day over chit fund scam.
"Why is the chief minister mum over the issue relating to chit fund judicial panel judge (retired) Justice M M Das joining a BJD meeting and giving statement in violation of the terms and reference of the commission? A statement from the government could have settled the matter," Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra (Congress) said.
Mishra raised the issue when the House reassembled at 3 PM after two successive adjournments in the pre-lunch session.
The House countinued to witness uproarious scenes with Congress and BJP members demanding Justice Das's removal from judicial panel and action against Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Dasburma who has been served notice by the CBI for his alleged links with a ponzi firm.
"We are forced to stage an agitation in the Well of the House. Though it is the responsibility of the government to ensure smooth functioning of the House, they (ruling party) have (made) no such effort to bring back normalcy. They have no guts to discuss the matter in the House," Mishra alleged.
He claimed nobody, including retired judges, legal experts or lawyers, have accepted Justice Das's act of attending the BJD meet at Cuttack and giving a speech which demoralised thousands of investors already cheated by the ponzi firms.
