OR set to become economic, geopolitical fulcrum: Arun Prakash

The Indian Ocean Region is set to become the economicand geo-political fulcrum of the 21st century, former Chief of the Naval Staff Arun Prakash said here today.
Admiral (retd) Prakash stated this while delivering the keynote address at the annual Dilli series seminar on "Regional Instabilities in Indian Ocean RimStates-Legacy of Maritime Conquest and Colonisation" at Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala in Kannur district.
Prakash urged the young cadets and future naval leaders to work diligently to ensure that "our weakness at sea during the bygonecolonial period which cost us our freedom does not repeat itself."
The inaugural session of the two day third edition of the seminar is being attended by a large delegation of serving and retired senior Naval officers, eminent academicians, distinguished luminaries and INA cadets.
Dr Talmiz Ahmad, former Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia andUnited Arab Emirates, examined in detail the security risksand challenges faced by the country as a result of the ongoing turmoilin the Middle East, an INA release said today.
The six papers presented today analysed and provided a detailed insight on the impact of colonial expansion and past balance of power on present day geo-politics of Indian Ocean Region (IOR), it said.
The Dilli seminar continues to serve its purpose of apprising INA cadets about the rich maritime history and heritage of the nation and promises to remain prominent in the calendar of maritime history studiesof the country, the release added.
