The deceased was identified as Sitaram Paraswal, they said.
"The sailor was found hanging in his room, in what appears to be a case of suicide," a Defence release said.
"The local police was intimated and an FIR has been registered. The deceased belonged to Sikar in Rajasthan. The family of the sailor has been informed. The Navy has ordered an inquiry into the incident," it added.
Station Duty Officer at Lonavla Police said the incident came to light at around 8:00 AM.
