The government has imparted training to over 4 lakh people under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) as of November, Parliament was informed today.
"PMKVY is a comprehensive skill training scheme targeting to train 14 lakh persons and certify 10 lakh persons under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in a year.
"As on November 23, 2015, 4.38 lakh persons have been trained under this scheme", Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation V K Singh said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
Besides, Singh said government is implementing entrepreneurship cum skill development programme (ESDP) across the country through departmental training centres of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).
The programme is also implemented through Central and State governments, Khadi and Village Industries Boards (KVIBs), National Academy of Rural Development & Self Employment Training Institute and Rural Self Employment Training Institutes.
He said the government is also preparing unemployed youth to set up enterprises under Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme.
"The central ministries/departments are running a number of skill development schemes and programmes that enable and mobilise large number of Indian youth to take up skill training and become employable and earn livelihood through jobs or self-employment", Singh said.
