The ECP Secretary Syed Sher Afgan had submitted before the SC a schedule, which suggested that polls will be held in three stages - with the third stage ending on March 26, 2016.
However, SC rejected the proposed schedule and asked the Election Commission to hold the polling four months before its given schedule, saying a lot of time has already been wasted.
The Attorney General Salman Butt also on part of government told the court that elections in the cantonments will be held on May 16, 2015.
The court earlier in the day asked the ECP to issue schedules for local governments elections in three provinces by 8pm.
