A Palestinian attempted a stabbing today at a bus stop near an Israeli settlement on the outskirts of the flashpoint West Bank city of Hebron and was shot by a soldier, the army said.
The Palestinian was wounded and taken for medical treatment, Israel's army said in a statement. No further details were given on the person's identity or condition.
No other injuries were reported in the incident at the Elias junction near the Kiryat Arba settlement in the occupied West Bank.
Kiryat Arba is located next to Hebron, where several hundred Israeli settlers live in the centre of the city in constant tension with some 200,000 Palestinians.
A wave of unrest that broke out in October 2015 has killed at least 294 Palestinians or Arab Israelis, 47 Israelis, two Americans, two Jordanians, an Eritrean, a Sudanese and a Briton, according to an AFP toll.
Israeli authorities say that most of the Palestinians killed were carrying out knife, gun or car-ramming attacks.
Others were shot dead in protests and clashes, while some were killed in Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip.
The violence had greatly subsided in recent months, but tension around the highly sensitive Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem's Old City saw a spike in July.
Jewish high holidays beginning later this month have also led to increased tensions in the past.
