Palghar: Dozen villagers hospitalised after drinking pit water

At least a dozen tribals from Nandgaon village in Jawahar taluka here have been hospitalised for gastroenteritis after they drank contaminated water from pits, officials said today.
The villagers were rushed to the Patangsha Kutir Rugnalaya in Jawahar two days ago after they complained of vomiting, giddiness and other complications, Dr Sanjeev Kamble, Deputy Director of Health Services Mumbai division, who is presently touring the rural regions of the newly formed Palghar district, said today.
The condition of the villagers, who are undergoing treatment in now stable, he said.
According to Kamble, most of the patients from the tribal-dominated village have been consuming polluted water from the pits.

The DHO of Palghar, Dr R V Gaikwad is also camping in the region and supervising measures to avert the spread of the disease while ensuring that villagers get safe potable water, Kamble said.
A ten-year-old boy Balu Laxman Wad died a few days back while being shifted to Jawhar hospital after his condition deteriorated while undergoing treatment at the village for drinking dirty water.
