A teacher commited suicide after being ridiculed at a village reconciliation meeting (salishi sabha) and asked to pay Rs one lakh for allegedly having relations with a married woman at Sagardighi in murshidbaad district today.
A top police officer said Dilip Mondal consumed pesticide after being publicly abused at the meeting attended by 'village heads' where he was also asked to cough up Rs one lakh as compensation for tarnishing the image of the area and one Asim Majhi, whose residence he had visited and allegedly met his wife several times.
After last night's humiliation, Mondal, who didnot talk to anyone, came back to his residence.
The 'Paramour's body was found with an empty pesticide bottle lying nearby earlier in the day after neighbours broke open the bolted door in presence of police.
Based on the suicide note, lying on the side of the body, police were on the lookout of Majhi.
