Pb: Policies to create skilled workforce for tourism sector

To give a push to tourism in Punjab and create a pool of skilled manpower for the sector, the government is planing to start various knowledge-based programmes for the youth of the state.
The initiative, among other such policies, aim at meeting the growing demand of competent workforce in the hospitality sector, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur said here.
He further said in recognition to the state's achievements in the sector, the Centre has conferred the National Award for Excellence in Hospitality Education for 2011-12 to the Chandigarh College of Hotel Management in Mohali.
'Hunar Se Rozgar' Programme, a pro-poor scheme, has been started to create employable skills in the youth, especially in the fields of food production, front office and bakery, he said.
As many as 900 students have received training under the project during the year 2011-2012, he added.
