Emphasising the significance of physical education teachers in harnessing sports talent among students, Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-din, today exhorted upon them to put in their best for encouraging games among potential youth.
"Physical education teachers should be responsible for promotion of sports activities in schools," Taj said during a joint meeting of officers of Youth Services and Sports and J&K State Sports Council.
The construction of indoor stadium in the area, with a seating capacity of around 50,000, is being taken up under centrally sponsored scheme.
"The Centre Government has been providing liberal funding to upgrade sports infrastructure in the state," Taj said.
The Minister directed the concerned officers to ensure promotion of sports activities in schools especially in High and Higher secondary schools.
He also asked for land identification in consultation with respective panchayats for construction of stadium for the students of those schools, which lack playing fields due to non-availability of land.
Taj also directed to submit the report within next five days about the status of progress of various under construction stadia in Jammu division.
Earlier, during a function organised by Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing, the Minister hailed the nurses' profession as a noble service towards humanity.
"Their job is an opportunity for them to nurse the needy," he said and hoped that the fraternity would continue its services with the same zest and zeal.
