The Allahabad High Court today sought a reply from the Uttar Pradesh government and the Centre on a PIL seeking a complete ban on the export of beef.
A Division Bench comprising justices Dilip Gupta and V K Mishra directed the respondents to file their counter- affidavits within four weeks.
The PIL, filed by "Lawyers' Civilian Society", sought the ban on the export of beef and the meat of all milch cattle.
It stated that Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act was not being implemented properly in the state where slaughter houses did not have proper mechanisms for disposal of waste.
