Congress today reacted cautiously to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to reach out to the opposition and offer to make changes, if necessary, in the land bill in farmers' interest.
"It is a very positive and welcome statement but the intention is a suspect as the government had often talked about holding joint session," party MP Bhalchandra Mungekar said at the AICC briefing.
Mungekar, a former member of the Planning Commission, said the bill was brought by the UPA government after careful consideration and intense discussions.
He also dwelt at length on the Economic Survey released by the government today. He alleged that the government pressurised the RBI to reduce repo rate.
In a spirited reply to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address in Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister expressed willingness to make changes in the land bill as he reached out to opposition for support, saying they should shed politics and ego and not make it a prestige issue.
Again he taunted Congress saying it cannot be "arrogant" that the land law passed by it was the best.
