PM to lay foundation of hydro engineering college in HP

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will tomorrow lay the foundation of a hydro engineering college to be set up in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh.
Modi will do so from Shimla during his one-day visit to the state tomorrow, Himachal Pradesh Technical Education Minister G S Bali told PTI.
The prime minister will flag off a flight from Shimla to Delhi to launch the regional air connectivity scheme 'UDAN', under which fares of flights will be capped at Rs 2,500 per seat per hour.
Bali said that hydro sector will get a boost from the proposed hydro engineering college at Bandla in Bilaspur district of the state.
The state government, NTPC and NHPC in July last signed an MoU for setting up the college to promote technical education in the state.
The minister said that the state has hydro potential of 24,000 MW, of which 21,500 MW capacity has been allotted for various completed or under construction projects.
Opening of hydro engineering college in the state will be able to produce engineerswith specialisationin the field of hydro electricity, Bali said.
The demand of the industry could be fulfilled with the engineers coming out of this institute, he added.
Bali said that NHPCandNTPC have donated Rs 37.5 crore each for the construction of this college. The college will have four streams in mechanical, civil, electrical and computer science.
The state government has transferred 62 bighas of land to the technical education department for setting up the college. The government has also accorded administrative approval of Rs 82 crore for construction of campus of the institute, the minister said.
