A fake telemarketing company with around 80 'employees' has been busted with the arrest of two accused persons in north west Delhi's Rishi Nagar area, police said today.
"A police team raided a call centre of the fake telemarketing company in Rishi Nagar and arrested accused Rajat Nanda and his partner Chander Singh," said Vijay Singh, DCP (north west).
Police also recovered 108 mobile phones, 103 SIM cards and other incriminating material during the raid from the call centre where 80 callers were deployed to lure people from other states through promise of high-end smartphones at Rs 5,000.
Police said that the accused had cheated hundreds of people across the states of Bihar, MP, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Assam among others.
A complaint was received by the police from a Aligarh resident Anwar on November 30. He said that he was called by a telemarketing girl informing that he was a winner in a lucky draw and offered a branded mobile phone worth Rs 25,000 on paying Rs 5,000 on delivery, said the officer.
The complainant paid Rs 5,000 on delivery of a packet but found it without the promised mobile phone. When he contacted the customer care service of the telemarketing company he was called to Delhi to receive another high end phone after paying extra Rs 5,000.
He was instructed to reach Pitampura Metro station where again he paid Rs 5,000 to a field boy of the telemarketing company, who vanished after taking money in the crowd, he said.
Police also raided a rented godown of the accused in Rohini, recovering packing material and parcels stuffed with various religious items.
Investigation is going on to trace other victims in different states and involvement of other persons in the crime, added the officer.
