The accused, identified as Jeevan Chowdhary, allegedly murdered his co-labourer Santosh Rajan Ghosh with sharp weapons on May 5, 2011 at Naupada here after the latter failed to return Rs 3,000 which he owed to Chowdhary.
Local police recently started investigations into pending cases afresh.
Crime branch Assistant Police Inspector Sandeep Bagul said Chowdhary was arrested on December 5 on the basis on a tip off after Malda police were contacted.
He was brought to Thane on transit remand.
