Powell, the outgoing US envoy, met chief minister Prithviraj Chavan here and discussed issues like the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, post-poll ties between India and the US and economy, an official said, after the meeting.
Powell appreciated the cooperation extended by the state government to the various initiatives of the US consulate.
The chief minister dwelt on the need for the US universities to open campus for Indian students so that they get to learn global-level curriculum.
Meanwhile, Tata Group Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata also met Chavan and expressed the desire to be part of the initiatives of the state government in education, employment and health sectors, as part of corporate social responsibility.
