Dixit, a 1977-batch IPS officer who was heading the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), replaces Sanjeev Dayal, who is retiring tomorrow, and will have a tenure of just over a year.
The state government also effected reshuffle at senior-level in the police administration.
Senior officer Vijay Kamble, who headed the State Security Corporation till now, will replace Dixit as the new Director General of ACB, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, announced.
Fadnavis, who chose to announce the new appointments on social networking site Twitter, said Satish Mathur has been appointed as Director General and Managing Director of State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation (MSPHWC).
Meera Borwankar, Additional Director General of Police (Prisons), has been promoted and posted as Director General of Legal and Technical Department.
Dixit's transfer from the ACB comes at a time when the investigation agency is probing charges of corruption against NCP leaders and former Ministers Ajit Pawar and Sunil Tatkare in the irrigation scam.
Dixit, a recipient of the President's Police Medal, was instrumental in probing charges of corruption against NCP heavyweight and former minister Chhagan Bhujbal in the Maharashtra Sadan scam. He is scheduled to retire in November next year.
