"There is a proposal to empower NHAI to make decisions regarding highway projects. PMO has approved it in principle and a proposal will be sent to it soon," the Road, Transport and Highways Minister told reporters here.
The Minister said once the approval from the PMO comes in, it would be sent for Cabinet nod.
The National Highways Authority of India was constituted by an Act of Parliament -- National Highways Authority of India Act, 1988.
The Minister said once NHAI is empowered, it would result in faster decision-making and faster execution of projects.
