Provide quality education or face action: Channi

The Punjab government will not tolerate any laxity in providing quality education by private technical institutes, state minister Charanjit Singh Channi said here today.
The state Technical Education minister said no compromise or relaxation would be allowed for any private institute providing technical education.
"No private technical education institute will be allowed to play with the future of students. The institutes have to meet all the standards set by the AICTE and the Punjab government, otherwise they will have to face action." Channi said.
He said government officials will regularly check private technical institutes and if irregularities are found, their affiliation would be cancelled immediately.
"If officials fail to perform their duty honestly and are not up to the mark, strict action would be taken against them," Channi said.
The minister directed installation of bio-metric attendance systems to stop fake admissions in private technical institutes which will be linked to the online system of the technical education department.
He asserted that all admissions in technical education institutes should be online, no late admissions will be allowed and no institute will be allowed to admit more students than the allotted seats.
Channi stressed on providing providing quality education rather commercialising the education system and asked technical educational institutes to follow the guidelines of the UGC and the AICTE in recruiting teaching staff.
He said a joint advisory committee of representatives private technical educational institutes and government representatives would be formed soon to uplift the standard of education in the state.
The minister also announced to hold joint job fairs in collaboration with the private firms and institutes.
