She was 95 and is survived by two sons, including Rangsamy, and three daughters, an official release said.
Panchaali Ammal was admitted to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College hospital three days ago for ailments related to old age and she breathed her last today, it said.
Her body has been kept at Rangasamy's residence to enable people pay their homage.
A wreath was placed on behalf of the Lt Governor A K Singh, away in Andaman and Nicobar Islands of which also he is the Lt Governor.
Ministers, MLAs, officials, leaders of various political parties and delegates of different organisations and workers and functionaries of the ruling AINRC paid their last respects to Panchaali Ammal.
Cremation would take place tomorrow, they said.
