Pursuing the decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Anantnag district administration in Jammu and Kashmir did away with the interview process to select 49 candidates for Class IV posts in the government "purely on the basis of merit".
The 49 were selected from among a massive 17860 applications received for 56 posts.
"The tentative selection list of the 49 selected candidates will be recommended to the General Administration Department (GAD) for issuance of formal orders after completing requisite formalities," an official spokesman said.
The district administration's move comes in the wake of the Prime Minister's announcement that selection for lower cadre posts should be done without any interview process.
The selection for these posts was pending for the past 10 years, he said.
The applicants have been given 21 days for filing claims and objections regarding the tentative selection list, the spokesman said.
The applications were then fed to computer-generated transparent selection process, having minimal human intervention for making the list free from any discrepancy.
A tentative selection list was formulated for 49 posts only as there were no applications for the seven reserved posts, the spokesman said.
The posts are to be filled various departments of the state government in the south Kashmir district.
