A 35-year-old woman today tried to set herself and her husband ablaze in front of the office of Inspector General of Police here while alleging that cops did not register her complaint of abduction and rape by a goon, which was foiled by the personnel.
The woman alleged that the local goon, a history-sheeter, and his two sons had kidnapped her last month when she was on her way to her job and kept her in confinement for 17 days during which she was raped, a police official said.
The woman and her husband alleged that they were forced to take the extreme step as police was not registering her complaint of rape in MIG police station.
The woman said that she somehow managed to escape from her captors and since then all her efforts to register the complaint at the police station went in vain.
Superintendent of Police (East), Monika Shukla said the woman disappeared last month after which her husband filed a missing person's report with MIG police station.
However, after returning home, the woman never gave any statement to the police with regard to her alleged kidnapping and rape, she said.
The SP said the police have recorded the woman's statement on the issue and are taking all appropriate steps in the matter.
