Vijay Nakashe, a resident of Arjun Nagar here, hanged himself with a rope in his house, they said, adding no suicide note was found.
The 45-year-old was the headmaster of a Zilla Parishad school at Dharni attached to Semadoh Panchayat Samiti.
Members of the local Panchayat Raj Committee paid a visit to the school last evening and found 30 bags of rice supplied to it under nutritious diet scheme missing.
Following this, the committee members allegedly threatened him with suspension, Nakashe's family members claimed.
Apparently disturbed by this, Nakashe returned to his house and allegedly killed himself at around 7 am, police said.
Sambhaji Patil-Nilangekar, Chairman of the Committee, however, told reporters the panel members did not admonish Nakashe but only quizzed him and noted down his replies.
He expressed grief over the headmaster's death.
