Notion Press, a city-based startup which helps first-time authors publish their works, today said it hopes to become a Rs 100-crore company by 2019.
"In the next three years, by 2019, we hope to become a Rs 100-crore company, taking into consideration the expansion plans," Notion Press Co-Founder Naveen Valsakumar told PTI.
Four years into business, cash-flow funded Notion Press, which has a 52-member team, is on track to achieve its Rs 6 crore revenue target by next month, Valsakumar said.
"We are almost there to achieve our target of Rs 6 crore revenue by next month," he said.
Founded in January 2012, Notion Press garnered Rs 40 lakh revenue in its very first year and has published 1,200 titles, Valsakumar said.
Apart from Valsakumar, Bhargava Adepalley and Jana Pillay are other co-founders of the company.
"We decided to start a business with the aim of helping first-time writers get their work published. We came at this decision because we ourselves as first-time authors faced the difficulty of publishing our work," Adepally said.
"I and Valsakumar - we wanted to publish our work, and we approached our friend Pillay. All along we thought it would be an easy task to publish, but we were in for a rude shock, as Pillay refused to entertain the idea, saying that they did not have readership base before publishing their work," he said.
On its Rs 100 crore goal, Valsakumar said, "We have our plans. We are bringing in a lot of new technologies that are getting built, that has never been done before."
He replied in the affirmative to a question on whether the company would raise funds to achieve the Rs 100 crore target.
It also planned to make its first physical presence outside India very soon, he said but declined to divulge the country.
Valsakumar said they invested just Rs 3,000 in buying a domain to start their online platform and worked hard from home for the first year, splitting responsibilities among the three co-founders.
"We have now a strength of 52 people working for us, and we plan to hire 24 people every month, keeping in view our expansion plans," he said.
Asked what packages they provide the authors, Valsakumar said the company provides tools, data and expertise that enables authors take business decisions.
"We give a launching pad for an author to begin his writing career and help them grow into becoming an authorpreneur," Valsakumar said.
The company had helped some 1,000 writers in publishing their works and has tied up with distributors across 97 countries, he added.
