Rains disrupt power supply in many areas

Areas across the city reeled under power cuts following rains this evening with some localities even witnessing outages for more than four hours.
Supply of power was affected immediately after rain and thunderstorm in the evening and areas in South, North and East Delhi were mainly hit.
"There was over four hour long power cut in our area. Power was disrupted immediately after the onset of thunderstorm around 4 PM and resumed after around 7 PM," said a resident of the Nizamuddin area.
A power department official said the outages were reported primarily due to local faults.
"The outages took place not because of shortage of power but due to local faults," said the official.

"Sudden disruption in power supply due to rains has exposed the operational limitations of the power authorities and shows the handicap of the power authorities when it comes to maintaining power supply during inclement weather," complained another resident in East Delhi.
