Rains stop in Kolhapur, river still above danger mark

Even as the rains stopped pounding the city today, the Panchganga river near here is still flowing above the danger mark and so far 1,400 people have been shifted to safer places.
"After several days of incessant downpour, Kolhapur did not get any heavy showers today. It was largely a sunny day. However, the water-level of Panchganga river, flowing near the city, is still above the danger mark," an official said.
"Twelve major roads in Kolhapur district and 66 bridges are still submerged under water. About 1,400 people have been shifted to safer places by the civic body," he added.

Meanwhile, Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil reviewed the flood situation in Kolhapur district and instructed the district administration to give compensation to the two families each who lost a family member in the flood.
A team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been stationed in Kolhapur district to help the administration deal with any eventuality.
