Raise policing standard to meet global benchmark: Patnaik

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today asked the Odisha Police to raise the bar to match global benchmark as the state is fast emerging as a top destination of international investors.

Addressing the valedictory session of the 60th Senior Police Officers' Conference, 2018 here. Patnaik also lauded the progress of Odisha in different spheres of administration during the last two decades.

"The senior police officers should raise the standards of policing to match global benchmark," Patnaik said citing achievements of the state government in disaster management, that has earned appreciation from the United Nations.

Stating that Odisha is fast emerging as a top destination of international investors because of stable law and order situation, Patnaik said Bhubaneswar is regarded as safe and smart city internationally.

Patnaik also released a book "Crime in Odisha 2016" and inaugurated a mobile app "Sahayata" on the occasion. The State Crime Record Bureau has prepared the book as well as developed the app for the benefit of common citizens.

In his keynote address, DGP RP Sharma lauded the support of the state government for police force modernisation and infrastructural development of Odisha Police during the last two decades.

Important recommendations made by the working groups in the conference will be taken up for consideration by state police and the state government, the DGP said.

He also spoke on the establishment of model police station, e-office and counselling centres for women in each district.
