Ramachandra University Chancellor moves court for bail

A designated CBI court will hear tomorrow the bail application of Sri Ramachandra University Chancellor and businessman V R Venkatachalam, arrested by the Central Investigative agency on charges of duty evasion on imported luxury cars.
Ramachandra had been accused of purchasing seven imported luxury cars from a person and was arrested by CBI sleuths here yesterday.
Principal Sessions Judge for CBI cases, Justice R Krishnamoorthy remanded Ramachandra to 14 day judicial custody yesterday after he was produced before him.
Ramachandra moved bail plea today and CBI meanwhile has also moved an application, praying for five day custody of the accused for questioning.

CBI had filed the chargesheet in the case last week.
Hyderabad-based businessman Alex Joseph is the main accused in the case which relates to a probe into car import scam in which high-end cars were sold to politicians and businessmen allegedly by evading customs duty.
Both the petitions were heard today and the case has adjourned for tomorrow.
