The Reserve Bank today directed urban co-operative banks to strictly adhere to the requirement of using their full name along with their logo or abridged name as a brand promotion exercise.
"It has come to the notice of RBI that some UCBs are not following this principle strictly by either not ensuring that their full name appears alongside their abridged/abbreviated name or using too small fonts for their full name which renders it unreadable," RBI said in a notification.
UCBs were allowed to display only their full name for such exercises earlier. However, a Standing Advisory Committee in 2006 had allowed them to use logo or shorter names for band promotion given the condition that their full name should also appear alongside.
RBI said that UCBs efforts towards brand building do not compromise with the larger issue of proper disclosure to the public.
"UCBs are advised to ensure that wherever abbreviated/ abridged version of their name is used for logo/brand building, the full name of the bank as appearing in the Certificate of Registration and the licence granted by RBI should also be displayed prominently," it added.
Besides, the font size used for the full name should not be smaller than the one used for their abbreviated name/ abridged name/logo, it added.
