Nearly a month after the heavy rainfall and resultant floods in Kerala, tourism destinations have re-opened in the state, particularly picturesque Wayanad.
To attract tourists, Wayanad Tourism is hostings a bike rally called 'Wayanad Beckons' in which 20 riders are taking part.
The riders started the ride on September 21 from Wayanad and covered Mysuru in Karnataka, Udhagamandalam, Mettupalayam and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and would be returning to Wayanad tomorrow.
Speaking to reporters here Saturday, marketing manager of the District Tourism Promotion Council, Wayanad, P P Praveen said the district witnessed the longest monsoon for the last three-and-a-half months bringing tourism to a standstill.
"Now, the district has recovered and most of its sought-after destinations are open to receive the tourists," he said.
"This rally can be considered also as a ride of gratitude for the wonderful support offered by the neighbouring states during the floods," he added.
The bike rally was organised by District Tourism Promotion Council and supported by Travels Agents Association, Coimbatore, and the Kerala Club, Coimbatore.
