Rice, wheat strengthen as demand picks up

Firm conditions prevailed at the wholesale grains market today as rice basmati and other grains firmed up by upto Rs 200 per quintal on increased offftake against restricted arrivals from producing belts.
Traders said increased offtake by stockists, driven by rising demand against restricted supplies from producing belts mainly pushed up rice basmati prices.
They said pick up in demand from consuming industries helped other bold grains to trade higher.
In the national capital, rice basmati common and Pusa-1121 variety finished higher at Rs 5,800-5,900 and Rs 4,700-5,550 against last close of Rs 5,600-5,700 and Rs 4,550-5,400 per quintal respectively.
Non-basmati rice permal raw, wand, sela and IR-8 also ended higher at Rs 1,925-1,975, Rs 2,100-2,175, Rs 2,600-2,700 and Rs 1,800-1,825 from previous levels of Rs 1,900-1,950, Rs 2,075-2,125,Rs 2,400-2,500 and Rs 1,775-1,800 per quintal respectively line witha rice basmati trend.
Wheat dara (for mills) too edged up by Rs 5 to Rs 1,690-1,695 per quintal on increased offtake by flour mills. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded higher a similar margin to Rs 1,695-1,700 per 90 kg. Atta flour mills, maida and sooji too ended higher at Rs 890-900, Rs 970-980 and Rs 1,000-1,020 against last close of Rs 865-870, Rs 940-960 and Rs 980-990 per 50 kg respectively.
In line with overall trend, other bold grains like, barley and bajra rose by Rs 10 each to Rs 1,630-1,635 and Rs 1,620-1,625 per quintal respectively. Jowar yellow and white rose by Rs 50 and Rs 100 to Rs 1,850-1,950 and Rs 3,500-3,600 per quintal respectively.
