The incident took place last night in the house of fruit seller Mahesh Jatav.
According to Jatav's complaint, six robbers barged into his house while the family members were asleep, SP Rajendra Prasad Pandey said.
The robbers entered the upper floor of the house through terrace.
"They took Rs 14,000 and some ornaments kept in the house. Meanwhile, Jatav's daughter Nitu got up and resisted them. On this, the robbers strangulated her to death and burnt the body on terrace," he said.
Following a complaint by the victim's father, a case under Section 302 (murder) and 394 (robbery) of the IPC has been registered.
Body has been sent for post mortem and efforts are on to nab the accused, SP said, adding that the incident is suspicious as the body of the victim was burnt after the murder.
