Fashion designer Rohit Bal today unveiled the limited edition of his new collection of an iconic windproof lighter that blends "America's sophistication with India's intricate design".
Adorned with his signature lotus motifs in black and white, Bal terms the Zippo lighter a pride to showcase India across the globe.
"I wanted to give Zippo an Indian feel because I am the first designer who has got the opportunity to design a high-end luxury lighter. I aimed to provide the Indian market with a unique accessory that mixed influences from America and India.
"Since, I am not interested in international designs, so I have incorporated my signature lotus motifs in 3D to present the Indian culture," Bal said.
He gave two designs for the lighter and the final one was selected through online voting on the company's Facebook page.
The 52-year-old designer feels that online marketing is the next trend.
"I don't understand technology much as I am not so tech savvy. I still prefer seeing my creation's picture on a paper or a magazine rather than a website. But, online promotion and marketing is the next trend," Bal added.
The collaboration between the designer and brand happened a couple of years ago when Bal used the lighters as props for his show.
"Rohit (Bal) is like a family to us. Our association started couple of years ago when he wanted to use these lighters as props for his fashion show. His designs are unique and at the same time are deeply rooted in tradition," said David B Warfel, director (Global Marketing) of Zippo.
The limited range will be available first time in India in Rohit Bal stores and Zippo outlets in the metropolitan cities.
Apart from the lighter and fashion commitments, the designer is also busy in designing luxury vilas in Goa.
