A local RSS leader was today shot dead allegedly by suspected ultras near Gudijora in Khunti district, a senior police officer said.
Twenty-year-old Karambeer Mahato was on his way to Belangi from Gudijora village on a motorcycle when three motorcycle-borne assailants fired at him, injuring him fatally, Superintendent of Police Anish Gupta said.
Extortion or personal enmity were the suspected cause behind the killing, the SP said adding that police were investigating the incident in all possible angle.
Asked whether any ultra group's involvement was a possibility behind the incident, Gupta did not rule out such a chance.
Gudijora was stated to be stronghold of People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI).
RSS sources said Mahato was an active worker and was the District Organizing Secretary (Zila Vyavastha Sachiv).
Meanwhile, road traffic on Khunti-Ranchi Road was disrupted for hours after enraged local residents put up a road blockade with the body demanding immediate arrest of the culprits responsible for the killing.
