Sacked IAS officer Tinoo Joshi surrendered in a local court here today in connection with a disproportionate assets case, two days after the Madhya Pradesh High Court directed her to do so after dismissing her plea seeking regular bail and extension of interim bail.
After surrendering before the court of Special Judge D K Mishra, Tinoo pleaded for bail but the judge turned down her application and sent her to judicial custody until May 23.
"Yes, the court has sent her to judicial custody," Tinoo's counsel Pratul Shandilya told PTI after coming out of the court.
"The honourable High Court had asked her to surrender on May 12. We got a copy of the order yesterday and in compliance with the High Court's direction, Tinoo surrendered today," he said.
On May 11, the special court here had issued a warrant against Tinoo, after the dismissed IAS officer failed to report though the three-month interim bail period granted to her for her medical treatment by the MP High Court on January 30 came to an end.
In fact, this is the second time that Tinoo has surrendered. Before this, she had surrendered before a court here on January 13 after being on the run for more than ten months.
The court had turned down her bail plea which stated that she had to undergo a hysterectomy procedure and sent her to judicial custody.
Tinoo and her husband Arvind Joshi, who is also an IAS officer, were dismissed last year after the Lokayukta police allegedly found assets worth several crores of rupees at their residence in Bhopal in December 2010.
Arvind is still absconding in the case.
