"Many people say that I have quit and call me a 'bhagoda' (deserter). I left it as it was matter of principles," he said addressing a rally at Benia Bag in Varanasi.
Mocking the party, he said the BJP would not have spared Lal Bahadur Shastri who resigned as rail minister or Lord Ram who went on a 14 year exile and would have also called them as 'bhagoda'.
"Lord Ram was sent to exile by his mother for 14 years. Everyone supported him then, if BJP existed then, they would have said God Ram is an escapist," he said.
Challenging the BJP to make any of its members resign from a panchayat seat, he said the party did not know "what is sacrifice" or the "politics of principles".
"Why would I leave the chief minister's seat if I was greedy? I had to leave the chief minister's seat because the Congress and the BJP together didn't allow my Lokpal bill to be passed. Hence I quit. Congress and BJP keep calling me a 'bhagoda'," he said.
