Joining the bandwagon of protesters, Samajwadi Party today demanded that the Mumbai municipal corporation's proposed development plan should be scrapped as it would "eliminate" religious structures of various communities in the city.
Addressing a press conference here, state unit president of Samajwadi Party Abu Azmi said, "A plan which allows the civic body to convert religious places into residential and commercial towers deserves to be thrown away.
"I demand an inquiry be initiated against the officers who promulgated such an unnecessary draft of development. The agency involved in this should also be punished," he said.
His party would launch agitation on the issue, he warned.
