The 27-year-old Sandhu made it to the third stage after finishing ninth in the first event of the second qualifying stage played at the Tomioka Club in Gunma, Japan from August 30 to September 2.
Ajeetesh, currently second on the PGTI's Rolex Ranking, ended ninth at seven-under-209 after shooting scores of 69, 70 and 70 at the Tomioka Club.
The Chandigarh lad thus kept alive his hopes of earning his card for the 2017 Japan Golf Tour season. The event featured a field of 106 players, out of which the top 38, made it to the next stage.
About 600 players are expected to participate in the third stage with about 100 players teeing it up at each of the six venues.
There are four stages in all. The fourth and last stage is slated to be held from December 1 to 6, 2016.
