The Supreme Court today sought response from the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government on a plea seeking deployment of paramilitary personnel at district courts premises in the state.
A bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu issued notices on the plea in the wake of an alleged murder in Muzaffarnagar district in February where a murder accused, an alleged gangster, was killed inside a court room while the proceedings in the case were on.
The petition filed by advocate Vivek Sharma submitted there was a need for a detailed plan for security measures and to provide proper security cover in all district courts.
It said paramilitary personnel must be deployed at the court premises because state police may have nexus with the criminals and the court proceedings must be conducted in a fearless environment in district courts.
The petition said Vicky Tyagi was shot dead by a person dressed as a lawyer inside a courtroom in Muzaffarnagar while hearing in the case was on. He was shot multiple times by the shooter and died on the spot.
