Scam in medicine purchase unearthed in govt hospital; 2 booked

Vigilance police have unearthed a multi-lakh scam in purchase of medicines under the Chief Minister's Health Insurance scheme in a super speciality government hospital here and booked two employees under various charges including cheating.
Cases have been registered against Stores Superintendent Dhandapani and Assistant Thirumalairajan of the Mohan Kumaramangalam Super Speciality Hospital under eight sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandramouli said.
They have been charged with offences including cheating, criminal breach of trust by public servant, he told PTI.
During investigations, it was found that in the past several months bogus bills were raised as if to show purchase of medicines, causing loss of several lakhs of rupees, he said adding further investigation was on.
The two employees had recently been transferred to hospitals in Thiruvannamalai and Ramanathapuram, he said adding they would be arrested soon.
