State-owned Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL) will announce expression of interest for exploration of coal mines in other countries, its Chairman and Managing Director N Sridhar said today.
He also said the company is in talks with other players in the public and private sector units for assessing the market conditions.
"We will be notifying expression of interest (EoI) in the next two weeks for the exploration activities in countries such as South Africa, Indonesia and Australia. We are looking at Greenfield mines with five million tonnes (MT) capacity per annum," Sridhar told reporters in a press conference.
He said a task-force comprising senior company officials has been formed for the matter.
"SCCL is also looking for few more coal blocks in India so that the production capacity can be enhanced from the current 52 MT to 80 MT in the next four years," he added.
Briefing on SCCL's performance during the last fiscal year, he said the total coal production stood at 52.53 MT against 50.47 MT in 2013-14.
Gross revenue was registered at Rs 14,083 crore (provisional) during 2014-15 compared with Rs 11,870 crore in 2013-14, he said.
SCCL had clocked Rs 418 crore net profit in 2013-14. The company may spend Rs 2,390 crore towards capex this year, he added.
