Three special teams from Q Branch (intelligence wing) of Police are carrying out search operations in the states of Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh to flush out the Maoists purportedly trained by five activists who were arrested recently from Karumathampatti near here.
Police had reportedly received information about hiding Maoists from some of the mobile phones seized during the raid in which top Maoist leader Roopesh and his wife Shyna, along with three others, were arrested from a bakery near here early last month.
One of the Maoists had confessed that they have trained a few persons, who have fanned out in three batches to the neighbouring states, police said.
However, the lawyers and People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) members, representing the arrested Maoists in Court, refuted the confession theory, claiming that police were trying to strengthen their case by giving out such "fabricated" information.
The case will be fought legally, the lawyers said.
