Security stepped up along HP border after terrorist threat

Security has been stepped up along Chamba border, adjoining Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir following inputs from the CRPF that suspected terrorists were spotted near Ravi basin and they might have sneaked into Himachal Pardesh.
"We have received inputs from the Central Reserve Police Force that suspected terrorist were spotted near Ravi basin. All precautionary measures have been taken in this regard," Director General of Police Sanjay Kumar said.
Besides deployment of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) along the border area of Chamba, surveillance has been increased at vulnerable places like dams and other installations, he said.
At Bhakra Dam, the police force strength has been doubled and a gazetted officer has also been deputed there.
He disclosed that Rs 1 crore have been allocated for installation of CCTV cameras at 27 locations at entry points on borders.
As many as 138 gun licenses have been issued to security firms working with banks and industrial areas, he added.
The senior police officer said that three companies of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) would be raised on the pattern of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for quick response in case of natural calamities and disasters.
Disaster management plans for all 12 districts have been prepared and the concerned SPs have been directed to constitute teams of 25-30 policemen for prompt response in exigency.
