An attempt by an DMDK worker to self immolate protesting allocation of Tirupur Lok Sabha seat to Kongunadu Desiya Makkal Katchi was foiled by fellow party workers in nearby Tirupur today.
Even as party workers were readying for a picketing to protest against the allocation of the seat under NDA seat-sharing formula, Lakshmanan suddenly doused himself with Kerosene and attempted to immolate self, police said.
However, his fellow partymen overpowered him and took him to party office, they said.
Some senior members of the party had threatened to quit if the seat was not allotted to DMDK, party sources said.
