The youths, hailing from Bejpara village in Mangaldoi police station, were allegedly taken by a group of people on the pretext of giving job but were sold to unidentified persons and held captive at a roadside eatery (dhaba) at Mandi.
Seven youths managed to escape and return home following which a case has been registered in the local police station and investigations are on to ensure the release of the remaining youths.
Darrang Superintendent of Police Jitmol Doley also visited the village and assured the family members that necessary investigations have been already initiated and efforts are on to secure the release of the seven youths.
The missing youths have been identified as Gobind Kalita, Krishna Kalita, Navajyoti Kalita, Jyotish Saharia, Karna Kalita, Manoj Kalita and Hriday Narayan Kalita.
