Five candidates of the ruling Telugu Desam and two of the lone opposition YSR Congress were today elected unopposed to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council under the MLAs' quota.
TDP's Nara Lokesh, Dokka Manikya Varaprasad, Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthy, Pothula Sunita and Batchula Arjunudu and YSRC's Alla Srinivas alias Nani and Gangula Prabhakar Reddy were elected unopposed to fill the seven seats that fell vacant on March 29 following the retirement of sitting members at the end of their six-year term.
The Legislature Secretary (in charge) and Returning Officer K Satyanarayana Rao declared the seven nominees elected this afternoon after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended.
Gangula Indira, wife of Prabhakar Reddy who filed nomination as a dummy candidate, withdrew her papers two days ago, paving the way for unopposed election.
