Through a resolution, the SGPC Executive strongly condemned the sacrilege incidents and urged the government to take more steps so that such incidents do not reoccur.
Avtar Singh Makkar, President of SGPC, the apex religious body of the Sikhs, said that the body has welcomed the recent decision of the Punjab Cabinet, which on Thursday last gave its nod to make the law more stringent, providing for life imprisonment as maximum punishment for those convicted for acts of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib.
He said the meeting also decided to built 250-room 'serai' at Anandpur.
He also said SGPC has announced eight per cent DA hike for its staff.
