Putting up banners on both sides of the road and on the median should be avoided, he said in a statement adding, "this is my appeal."
He said it was not wrong to put up "one or two" banners to inform the public and party men about the venue and the time of the party functions.
He said only the images of party founder C N Annadurai, rationalist leader Periyar, party president Karunanidhi and General Secretary K Anbazhagan should be embossed in such banners.
Stalin also asked them to also print the Tamil date, according to "Thiruvalluvar year" alongside that of the usual Gregorian calendar.
