Shun pomp, DMK leader Stalin tells cadres

DMK Working President M K Stalin today appealed to his party cadres to avoid putting up banners and pompous advertisements for party events.
"When the ideals are upheld by giving up pompous advertisements, the support of the general public will soar, giving a new lustre to our strong party," he said
Putting up banners on both sides of the road and on the median should be avoided, he said in a statement adding, "this is my appeal."
He said it was not wrong to put up "one or two" banners to inform the public and party men about the venue and the time of the party functions.

"Even such banners should be put up ensuring that the public is not inconvenienced and traffic not affected. Surely, putting up banners all along the route to functions should be avoided," he said.
He said only the images of party founder C N Annadurai, rationalist leader Periyar, party president Karunanidhi and General Secretary K Anbazhagan should be embossed in such banners.
Stalin also asked them to also print the Tamil date, according to "Thiruvalluvar year" alongside that of the usual Gregorian calendar.
