Union Minister V K Singh on Thursday asked people to shun single-use plastic to protect the environment.
He was speaking after inaugurating one-day 'Swachh Survekshan' league 2020 workshop here.
"People should shun single-use plastic to protect environment and for cleanliness of rivers," Singh said.
He said the government is taking stringent measures to end the practice of garbage dumping in the open.
Singh asked the local civic body officials not to allow the manual cleaning of sewer and septic tanks.
"In case any sanitation worker dies during cleaning of sewer tanks, the person responsible will have to face the law," he said.
The Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam is doing its best stop the usage of polythene bags and conducting raids on godowns in this regard, Municipal Commissioner Dinesh Sharma said.
